new year

had my first christmas away from home and first one in summer (new zealand). it didn't feel like christmas at all but had a good time, and 2009 started with a trip to maori bay. the magic seaweed forecast was 5 stars...and big. the currents were strong, waves messy close in, and only the good surfers way out back were doing anything good on the clean waves (well over head high). only had the use of a longboard which worked out well on the white water as getting out would have been sketchy for us.
it's a stunning bay - was beautiful weather and a good way to start the new year!
